Video is the Seductive Communication

It explains that reading is all about thinking — with our cognitive processors hard at work — while video is about getting us to feel.   It explains: “if you want them to fall in love, send them a video.”

Video creates an immersive environment that allows us to become empathetic with what’s happening on the screen.  We become more emotionally attached to whatever is in the video — more so than from plain text.

We usually consider emotional connections in the realm of the personal.  For instance, it seems clear that a video messaging app for those dating makes sense as it builds a connection between potential mates.  And yet consider how few dating apps employ video messaging.

And what about the business realm?  An emotional connection can also be helpful.  For instance, in watching someone describe the utility of a product or service — rather than reading reviews in text form— builds an emotional connection with the narrator.  Or consider the CEO of a company who explains on video reasons for a particular action, which creates a desired emotional connection.

The seductive impact of video — immediately getting a sense of a person in a matter of seconds — is clearly unchartered territory that needs to be explored further.
