Ziggeo Invents New Retainer-Based Pricing Model

Ziggeo, the product/service that makes it super easy for any site or platform to capture, curate and control videos, has launched a first of its kind retainer-based pricing model.

Here’s how it works:

It’s a subscription plan that starts with a free testing tier of 100 developer minutes per month.  The paid plans have levels that include greater volume discounts and more available features the higher the plan you select. Rather than representing a cap on usage, each monthly fee acts more like a retainer against usage that month. So in each month, any overages on usage are paid at the end of that month. That said, customers can set their own monthly limits to ensure they pay no more than x in any given month.

Usage depends on several factors: number of video minutes (or fraction of minutes) recorded; number of minutes playback; and storage.

There are 3 distinct benefits to adopting this model:

  1. Our costs are closely aligned with our customers. The more we need to pay for recording, playback and storage, the more our customers pay.
  2. With monthly fees acting like retainers rather than caps, customers are not penalized if their usage exceeds their plans. We also don’t need to chase customers down to upgrade plans when we see excessive usage -- or risk upsetting customers by shutting down usage if usage exceeds what’s allowed on selected plans.
  3. With no “all you can eat” plans, our exposure is limited in the event actual usage exceeds anticipated usage e.g. videos go viral.
  4. With the ability to set caps on monthly spends, customers have predictability and can control their own monthly costs.
  5. We’ve included a cost calculator on our pricing page so customers can calculate for themselves what their costs may be and which plan suits them best.

This new retainer-based pricing model has the benefit of offering flexibility and predictability for both Ziggeo and our customers.
